Preventative & Reactive Road & Pavement Gritting

The cost effective gritting and salt spreading services that Clearway Gritting provide to current and prospective clients commence as soon as we are contacted for a road and pavement gritting quotation.

We introduce ourselves to new clients, arrange to visit them and carry out a detailed survey of their site, using our expert knowledge and advice on winter gritting and salt spreading. We understand the importance of taking into account their personal views and requirements.

They will then be provided with a competitively priced winter road gritting and salt spreading quotation.

We are pleased to have a good working relationship with all our current customers and regularly contact them to discuss their winter gritting requirements.

All clients are supplied with Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Safe Systems of work, COSHH data sheets along with copies of our liability insurances and SAFEcontractor accreditation details before works commence.

Winter Gritting Management Responsibility

HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK ECT ACT 1974

Your responsibility to employees, members of the public

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) statistics show that slips, trips and falls are the most common cause of accidents within the work place. To reduce the risk of slips on ice, frost or snow, you need to assess the risk and put in a system to manage it.

Section 3 of the Work Place & Welfare Regulations 1999 require every employer to make a suitable and sufficient assessment of-

a) the risks to the health and safety of his employees to which they are exposed whilst they are at work; and

b) the risks to the health and safety of persons not in his employment arising out of or in connection with the conduct by him of his undertaking.

Gritting should be carried out when frost, ice or snow is forecast or when walkways are likely to be damp or wet and the floor temperatures are at or below freezing. The best times are early in the evening before the frosts settle and/or early in the morning before employees arrive. Salt does not work instantly; it needs sufficient time to dissolve into the moisture on the floor.
